Killing Game

Perry

When we in tenderness were young
we never thought it would be done.
We never thought we'd let the ghost of war
come haunting us anymore.

But now we're old beyond our years.
We've thrown away our childhood fears,
and wandered out into the battlefield again.

But it's a killing game,
regardless of the name.
Whatever cost is just a losing cost.
And there's no justifying
so many people dying.
No one can give back all the lives we've lost.

They say all's fair in love and war,
but we're not lovers anymore.
This international game of true romance
is just a game of chance.

We send munitions, guns and planes,
then try to pull back on the reins.
And then we act surprised
when they are used to kill.

But it's a killing game,
regardless of the name.
It's purpose not to build but to destroy.
And there's no justifying
so many people dying.
There's no such thing as a wnnable war.

When we in tenderness were young
we never thought it would be done,
but now we've wandered back into the wars again.
