The 1972 Championship Team

[1972 Championship Banner]

The 1972 team had only one returning starter, Henry Bibby, but a pack of promising sophomores including Greg Lee, Keith (now Jamaal)Wilkes, and 6-11 center Bill Walton. With powerful Walton in the middle, Lee dishing out the assists, and the outside shooting of Bibby and Wilkes, the Bruins were dominators once again. They scored over 100 points in each of their first seven games of the season. Until the final game of the NCAA Tournament, only one team closed within 6 points of the Bruins. For the season, they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.3 points, which is still an NCAA record.
