The 1965 Championship Team

[1965 Championship Banner]

UCLA started off the 1964-65 season on a bad note, losing to Illinois 110-83. They only lost one more game the rest of the season. Gail Goodrich blossomed into a scoring machine, averaging 24.6 points per game. Three other Bruins averaged double figures: Keith Erickson (12.9), Fred Goss (12.2), and Edgar Lacey (11.6). The killer press-and-fast-break style of the previous year continued to work again.

Goodrich, Edgar Lacey, and Kenny Washington were voted to the All Tournament team, though Bill Bradley of Princeton narrowly beat Goodrich for the Most Outstanding Player by scoring 58 points in the national third place game.
